Developmental Editing for Comic Books & Graphic Novels
Hi, I'm Sarah and I am a comic book editor, writer, artist, & designer.
As I develop my own independent comic series, Dark Time, I’m offering collaborative editing services to fellow comic creators!
My services include developmental and content editing for comics, graphic novels, and webcomics, focusing on story, pacing, and dialogue. I also edit promotional materials like Kickstarter pages, websites, and ads. With degrees in Advertising and Film (Scriptwriting) from UT Austin and a background in media, UX/UI, and digital strategy, I bring both storytelling and marketing expertise to your project. Let’s make your comic and your campaign stand out!
What is developmental editing?
Developmental editing focuses on the big-picture elements of your comic - story structure, pacing, character arcs, dialogue, theme, and overall narrative flow. In comics, it also includes feedback on how the story unfolds visually, such as panel pacing, page turns, and scene transitions.
I provide in-depth developmental editing to help you refine your comic book or graphic novel before you commit to final art or lettering.
This is not proofreading or copyediting. I generally won't focus on typos or grammar, but I'll help you shape your story into its strongest form before final art or lettering is locked in.
What I look at:
-
Plot structure & pacing
-
Character development & arcs
-
Dialogue tone & flow
-
Thematic clarity
-
Scene transitions & overall cohesion
-
Visual storytelling: paneling, flow, and reader experience
What you'll receive:
-
📄 An editorial letter
-
This letter provides my overall feedback on the elements above.
-
-
💬 Line-by-line comments
-
On a copy of your script.
-
-
Add-on (Optional):
-
